Rochester City Ballet Brings Artists Together for Fire & Light
- This spring performance is a true evening of collaboration with the Rochester arts community -

ROCHESTER, N.Y. –With the cost of nearly everything on the rise and the economy in flux, it is increasingly important to recognize value in the marketplace. A ticket to Rochester City Ballet’s spring performance Fire & Light offers not only an evening of exceptional dance, but also a journey into a collaborative fete of Rochester’s best artistic talents. Performances of Fire & Light will be May 2nd at 7:30pm and May 3rd at 2pm at Canandaigua Academy.

RCB executive director Katherine Ertsgaard explains that our commitment to the arts community led to exciting developments onstage. “Collaborating with other area artists, allows RCB to expand on the performance experienced by our audience.” For Fire & Light, RCB employ’s the talents of composer Stephen Kennedy, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra’s Jeff Tyzik and Hans Davidsson from the Eastman School of Music.

“Fire & Light will be an evening to remember as we perform an eclectic variety of music and dance specifically designed to showcase the strengths of our company dancers and the talents of other Rochester area artists.” says RCB artistic director Jamey Leverett.

Giving the audience a brief taste of pieces in development, along with three completed ballets, program highlights include the completed LumaVoce, which begins in darkness and allows dancers to illuminate themselves with hand held lights, is danced to an original composition by Stephen Kennedy. Bravo! Colorado, with music by Jeff Tyzik, along with excerpts from Intimate Portraits, a new work by artistic director Jamey Leverett, and an untitled piece, first performed at the organ dedication at Christ Church, round out the evening.

Firebird, which will close the performance, is a classic Russian folktale set to the exciting music of Stravinsky. Soloists include Kaitlin Fitzgerald (Canandaigua) as the Most Beautiful Maiden, Adam Kittelberger (Rochester) as Prince Ivan the Hunter, Brandon Alexander (Rochester) as the evil sorcerer Katschei and Brittany Shinay (Pittsford) as the magical Firebird.
