ROCHESTER CITY BALLET HIRES AMANDA MELROSE-SMITH

ROCHESTER, N.Y. –The Rochester City Ballet is pleased to announce that Amanda Melrose-Smith has recently joined the company.

“The Rochester City Ballet continues to grow every day and we’re so pleased to have Amanda join our company,” said Jamey Leverett, artistic director. “She will be making her official debut with the company in our annual production of The Nutcracker, we cannot wait for the community to see our newest member.”

Melrose-Smith most recently studied at the prestigious Miami City Ballet School and relocated to Rochester, N.Y. to join the Rochester City Ballet. She received additional dance training on scholarship at The Washington School of Ballet in Washington, D.C. Melrose-Smith has attended summer intensives at American Ballet Theatre in New York City, Boston Ballet, Miami City Ballet, The Harid Conservatory in Florida and Chautauqua Festival Dancers.

Melrose-Smith has been a Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) Gold Medalist in the senior division, advancing to the New York City finals in 2005 and 2006. Her featured roles have included include Clara in The Nutcracker, Kitri solo in Don Quixote and performing with the Washington Ballet in Giselle and Balanchine’s Serenade at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

The Rochester City Ballet (RCB), founded in 1987, is a non-profit, educational corporation. The Company presents a full season of quality dance to diverse audiences and helps keep the arts alive by presenting performances to educate and entertain adults and children at community events and special RCB performances.  The RCB has created at least 20 new ballets including Firebird, Don Quixote, Cinderella and the annual Nutcracker.
